Latin American countries including Dominican Republic and Mexico are seeking investments from Indian IT companies to establish centers in the region by offering tax concessions. Indian IT companies are facing challenges at the domestic level, such as the appreciation of the Indian Rupee against the US Dollar and minimum alternate tax issues.
Rogelio Granguillhome, the Ambassador of Mexico, stated that Indian IT companies including Tata Consultancy Services, Infosys, Wipro, and Sasken have presence in the country. These companies offer employment opportunities to over 2,000 professionals, and are expected to generate employment for about 5,000 professionals by 2010. He further added that tax concessions to companies are decided on project basis and in a joint consultation at the federal level. Provinces in the country offer various incentives to companies.
Latin American countries offer various opportunities to Indian companies ranging from establishing a call center for the Spanish market to developing high-end software. Various US-based companies are also approaching Latin American countries due to its proximity and low costs.
